"You can take the b'y out of the rock, but you can never take the rock out of the b'y"
(A Newfoundland expression capturing the deep, enduring longing island-born Newfoundlanders feel for home)
Born on the beautiful shores of Newfoundland and now calling Cape Breton home, I have always felt a deep connection to the Atlantic coast. Some of my happiest childhood memories were spent wandering the beach behind our home, searching for stones that caught my eye. Each one seemed to hold its own wonder and a beauty simply waiting to be noticed. I wanted to be the person who noticed—to see and appreciate what others might pass by. To me, those stones were among the most beautiful treasures on Earth.
Nature has a remarkable way of creating beauty in unexpected places. Every stone I use for Rioux Bijoux is carefully chosen by hand, then sanded, tumbled, polished, finished, and transformed into a piece of wearable art. No two stones are ever alike, making each piece as individual as the person who wears it.
My work is inspired by a belief I first held at five years old—and one I hold just as firmly today: just as every stone has a hidden beauty waiting to be revealed, so does every person. Sometimes, all it takes is a little care, a little light, and someone who recognizes the beauty that has been there all along.
Creating jewelry brings together so much of what I love: art, design, entrepreneurship, peaceful and welcoming spaces, and the rugged beauty of Canada’s East Coast. Rioux Bijoux is more than a jewelry line to me. It is a way to share the places that have shaped my life and to create meaningful pieces that help others celebrate their own stories.
Love From the East Coast,
Jen
